The 1989 Reunion Games Video
Of course, we all know about Rich Mullins’ illustrious musical career, but until now, we were unaware of his athletic achievements…well, sort of. During GMA Week in April 1989, Reunion Records held the Reunion Games for Christian radio stations.
Rich joined fellow artists and Christian radio VIPs for a series of spirited athletic events, hosted by Reunion Records. The event, which took place at the YMCA in Nashville, Tennessee, was designed to bring together the music industry and radio personalities in a fun, competitive environment.
David Nicholas McCracken: “We (Reunion Records) hosted the Reunion Games… rented out the YMCA and had all sorts of sporty games designed for the radio VIPS to play alongside the artists. Tons of fun! I think he (Rich) had a ton of fun. None of us were professional athletes and it was about giving the radio VIPs the opportunity to interact with our artists so it was fun for us all!” (Source: Never Picture Perfect website)
This week, in honor of the 36th anniversary of this fun-filled event, we’re thrilled to release the official video document of the Reunion Games on our YouTube channel. The video is as a delightful time capsule of Contemporary Christian Music history (and a not so great reminder of the fashion choices of the time). Unlike many of our releases, Rich Mullins is not the main focus of this video—though if you look closely, you’ll spot him, along with other artists like Michael W. Smith, Kim Hill, Chris Harris, Take 6, Morgan Cryar, Recess, Michael Peace and more.
Our sincere thanks to Andrew Montonera for bringing this to Ragamuffin Archive courtesy of David McCracken.

Can’t wait for the big reunion in the sky? I’m recruiting baseball players. I already have Richie McDonald of Lonestar.
