Introducing “Life from the Bottom Rung: Thoughts of a Beggarman”

Hey. So whoever you are, welcome to our podcast called “Life from the Bottom Rung: Thoughts of a Beggarman”! Honestly, we don’t know what we are doing or what this is totally gonna look like, and here’s the deal…there are plenty of people out there sharing podcasts, and we fully admit the last thing that’s needed is one more option of audio babble to fill this over-stuffed world of opinions and agendas.

So, the question is, “why would anyone wanna listen to what we have to share?” And the answer is… I’m not sure anyone will!

The truth is that life is hard and we have all been hit with some form of devastation, failure, loss or trauma. It seems some days like everyone else is able to move up while I stay stuck in the muck of life. However, through the years, I have been given hope & support & restoration out of the darkest moments when I was knocked down to the bottom rung.

I want to offer that same hope to others. Hopefully this podcast will do that!

Jesus himself came into our darkness to give us a chance & to lead us to freedom, and we were all created to help bear one another’s burdens. So I choose to stay at the bottom and share life’s perspective from the bottom rung. I think that’s where our redeemer chose to reside as well. I am a button-pushing, boundary-breaking, expectation-blurring Jesus-loving rebel trying to love people. I wonder if a podcast is fully authentic, how honest can I really be? How “outside-the-box” can we go?

Join us & find out!

My co-host Sprinkle and I have been through some painful stuff that I think a lot of people out in the world can relate to and find hope in hearing that they are not alone.
Our desire is to humbly share our perspectives on life, faith, and community; to play some original music; to interview guests who know a whole lot more than we do; to share some stories of hope and recovery in a broken world; to talk about some hard-to-discuss topics that can easily divide; to empower listeners to love & value others in authentic ways; to fight the voices of “doubt” “defeat” & “overwhelming chaos” in our world; and to have some fun along the way!

in short, join us in finding hope as we look at life from the Bottom Rung….
Thanks for listening…

About the Hosts

Eric Hauck is the Director of Beggarman Ministries in Andover, Kansas. In 2020, he opened “Grandma’s House”—a transition house that has hosted numerous men, helping them find hope, as well as good jobs. He has worked with his local community and beyond to receive donations of time, money and meals, witnessing the love of Jesus manifested through others to show value, hope and purpose.

Eric spent 22 years raising boys and serving on church staff—as worship pastor, youth pastor, recovery pastor and preaching pastor. He is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and songwriter, having recorded several projects of his own, as well as having worked with other artists. In the 90’s, he toured with legendary Christian recording artist Rich Mullins as a member of The Kid Brothers of St. Frank, for which he is notable for having sung the song “Madeline’s Song” with Rich, night after night.

On May 1, 2024, he moved into full-time work with the ministry of transitional housing through Beggarman Ministries—which he believes is the next step for how God wants to use him in his journey.

Dave Sprinkle has a day job, but that’s less interesting than the other parts of his life.

He’s a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, engineer, and composer who has been fortunate enough to work with Mitch McVicker, The Brighter Still, Ryan David Orr, Alan Smythy and the Stockholm Syndrome, The Delbert Anderson Trio, Gorky, Architecture Aviva, and Sumiko Sprinkle, along with big bands, symphony orchestras, and jazz combos, while also contributing music to a few independent films, most notably “Brennan.” He also loves writing short stories.

When not making art, he likes to read about business, technology, politics, history, culture, and crime. He’s an avid hockey fan, and loves Asian food.

He lives in Wichita, KS where he operates a small home studio called “The Love Shack.”

Throughout most of his life, he’s been the comedic relief for other people’s spiritual journeys, which is the most of what he’ll do on “Life from the Bottom Rung.”

  1. Well written introduction what you guys are going to do ahead of time
Great that it was written in English as so easy to read.
I’m guessing ahead much will be spoken.
    Proble is Americans “speak funny”.
    That’s because they “listen funny”.
If they “listened normal”, they would “speak normal”, and I’d be able to understand, as woukd all those that “Speak normal”!

Best wishes to you both as you embark on the next stage of your journey together.
May all you do be a blessing to many.

  2. Eric, Seeing y’alls’ title, I sure enjoyed seeing someone saying they like the idea of getting as low as possible. Seems e’body wants to call themselves a Leader; but nobody wants to call themselves a Servant; though I never read Jesus calling himself a Leader, though seemingly often calling Himself a Servant…so I really look forward to hearing y’alls’ words with this unique (for today) outlook on following Him. My wife has gotten to know your folks via singing together in the Butler Philharmonic, Eric. Thanks, Joel
